Living characters

I love it when writing fiction, you get to that point where you’re no longer making the characters do stuff. They do it on their own. Sometimes those little hotheads will insist on doing things you didn’t want them to do or didn’t plan them to. I have a character who insists on being a prominent character, even though I was considering cutting him out of the story altogether since he was so minor.

Another cool thing about this point in writing is you really feel like you’re discovering the story, not writing it. It flows better, it works better. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a lot of work, but it is satisfying, not grinding.
